About the practice

Wellington Road is situated in a single storey building with on an on-site independent pharmacy. The building was recently extended and refurbished to provide modern and up-to-date facilities. Accessibility in and around the building was improved for patients and two new consulting rooms built, bringing the total to four consulting rooms and one treatment room.

Wellington Road offers the full range of GMS services and is also signed up to the local enhanced services.

The practice sees itself as unique as it is one of the few practices that offers open access so that patients can be seen when it suits them. Pre-bookable appointments and telephone consultations are also available.

Patients appreciate this flexibility, the high levels of service and enjoy good relationships with staff.

As well as being part of the One Care Consortium, Wellington Road is part of and works with the Yate Cluster, and works with other practices on an ad-hoc, project basis.

Working environment, values and culture

Wellington Road Family Practice welcomes anyone from the local community. The practice team aim to provide excellent quality personal healthcare in the community, treating patients with honesty, courtesy and respect, and asking the same in return.

Small but perfectly formed, the practice has a family feel and every member of the team is extremely proud of the high quality of service patients receive.

Everyone working at the practice is focused on looking after, caring for and getting to know patients to offer a high quality personal service with excellent continuity of care.

A friendly and enjoyable place to work, the excellent team are all very supportive of one another.

Everyone plays an integral part in service provision and all staff members are made to feel valued and are listened to.

The practice boasts very little staff absence and an extremely low staff turnover. Staff speak very positively about working at the practice and comment how fortunate they feel they are to work there.

What we offer

The practice is open to a range of flexible working options and where possible will accommodate these.

Family friendly benefits include a child care voucher scheme, unpaid leave for dependents and statutory maternity, paternity and adoption leave.

Learning and development

All new members of staff have a formal induction process that takes place in the first two weeks and includes a range of mandatory, online training. On the first day there is an induction meeting with the practice manager to cover employment documentation and health and safety and a guided tour of the building.

The induction programme will include:

  • Sitting in with a colleague to get an understanding of how the practice runs
  • IT training and time to practice on our system using dummy patients
  • Time with the admin team to gain an understanding of the admin processes of the practice
  • Specific training sessions on aspects of the post

Staff are encouraged to undertake formal training and CPD, and Clinical staff have one week (FTE) of study leave per annum with the practice supporting the cost of appropriate courses.

A lead GP is responsible for providing support and all the clinicians work very closely together to provide mutual support and sharing of good knowledge and good practice.

The new Clinical Pharmacist can expect opportunities to network with other clinical pharmacists and to have regular reviews/updates with a senior clinical pharmacist.

The team holds regular clinical meetings, multi-disciplinary team meetings and practice staff meetings.

The practice meets socially at least twice a year.

Our patients

The practice’s demographic reflects those of the South Gloucestershire population and, as the closest surgery to the West Yate priority neighbourhood, includes a significant number of travellers.

A recent patient satisfaction survey ranked Wellington Road the joint top practice in South Gloucestershire. Feedback on NHS choices is very positive and the team often get comments from patients on the excellent service.

The practice consistently benchmarks very highly both locally and nationally in terms of patient satisfaction and the team welcome their growing list size.
