Careers in General Practice in Bristol, North Somerset & South Gloucestershire
Ullswater Road, Southmead, Bristol, BS10 6DF
The team at Southmead and Henbury aim to be compassionate, courteous and respectful at all times with a focus on enabling patients to be fully involved in their own care and treatment.
Southmead Health Centre is a 1960s, single storey building while Willow Tree Surgery is an extended semi-detached house. Both are home to a diverse team that includes ANPs, speciality nurses and a pharmacist.
Social Prescribing and Self Care are lead areas and the practice currently has an HCA on in-house MH training programme.
The practice works with individual patient lists and runs a mix of same day, routine and telephone appointments.
The practice is always open to new ideas and is one of the leading practices in the locality for self-care and social prescribing.
Southmead & Henbury are part of the Northern Arc cluster, along with Pioneer Medical Group and Shirehampton group Practice, within the N&W Locality.
The practice is home to a strong, hard-working team where the individual is valued.
After a period of change and growth, the new staff are looking ahead to deliver high quality, patient-focused care within the new structure.
Partners meet weekly and hold quarterly strategy meetings. GPs and staff have a weekly Team Talk and daily coffee meeting to ensure good lines of communication.
Communication is key, therefore there are also opportunities to access assigned mentor GPs or clinicians on a regular basis, and as frequently as necessary.
Flexible working opportunities, such as part-time or term-time only working, are offered on a case-by-case basis where available. Daily hours can be negotiable.
Paid maternity, paternity and adoption leave are all also available, with an enhanced sick leave package, unpaid and carer’s leave available case by case.
New members of staff can look forward to a full induction and mentoring scheme. That begins with a first half day organising administrative and IT needs and continues with on-the-job training with a mentor, interspersed with introductions and time spent with other teams to grow knowledge of the set-up of practice.
Training courses are taken within work time, and all staff are encouraged to take advantage of funding for training.
The practice is based in a very deprived part of Bristol that is also increasingly ethnically diverse and has some social issues.
