Careers in General Practice in Bristol, North Somerset & South Gloucestershire
4 Sunnyside Road, , Clevedon, N Somerset, BS21 7TA
Clevedon is a pleasant coastal town of about 24,000 inhabitants. It lies midway between Bristol and Weston-Super-Mare and is situated on the Severn estuary. It grew with the advent of the railway in the late 1900’s and was a resort of local repute. Today, it is a very pleasant place to walk along the promenade on a sunny afternoon and it is blessed with beautiful sunsets. It even has a pier – arguably the most beautiful in England and described by John Betjeman as being reminiscent of a “Japanese print”.
In 1985 the practice moved to a converted bungalow. In 1998 the bungalow adjoining the surgery was purchased with the conversion to the current surgery was completed in February 2000. Part of this project included the allocation of rooms for a pharmacy and these are now leased to the Well Group.
The new surgery has six consulting rooms. There are three treatment rooms for use by nurses and phlebotomists, reception and records room and waiting area. Upstairs there are offices and staff rest area.
The practice offers a mixture of book on day appointments, pre bookable, telephone consultations, and a duty doctor system is in place daily with triage slots. All patients have a named GP.
Sunnyside belongs to the Gordano Group Cluster, made up of Clevedon Medical Centre, Portishead Medical Group, Harbourside Family Practice, Heywood Surgery, Mendip Vale and Tyntesfield Medical Group.
Sunnyside aims to provide the highest quality, evidence-based healthcare to all patients within the confines of the Primary Medical Services contract which the General Practitioners have with NHS England and North Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group.
All patients are treated with dignity and respect regardless of age, race, religious beliefs, gender or sexual orientation.
Sunnyside offers a friendly, happy and fun working environment and supports and helps to develop employees in the areas they wish to pursue.
This is reflected in the low staff turnover - those that do leave are either taking retirement or moving away from the area.
Sunnyside has a very strong leadership team made up of Partners and a Practice Manager who support all staff and make everyone’s working environment pleasurable. The practice is willing to try and offer new services to patients if finances allow. All staff are encouraged to help in the development of the practice and support team members in improving their skills.
Sunnyside is open to considering flexible and part-time working if this fits the practice’s requirements.
The practice will also consider all requests for unpaid leave, paid maternity, paternity and adoption leave, and carers’ leave, in line with employment law regulations and on a case-by-case basis.
We are a training practice for both registrars and medical students.
From the beginning, all new employees enjoy an induction period and are placed with a mentor. The GPs have a buddy scheme.
Mutual support and peer learning includes regular clinical meetings with teams and outside agencies, monthly educational meetings and social events.
Requests for training are welcome and, provided it is of benefit to the surgery, the management will consider study days leave and paid courses.
Sunnyside looks after a high number of elderly patients as there are several nursing and residential homes in the area which is supported by our specialist elderly care nurse
The practice receives positive feedback and patients like that the practice has a family feel.
