About the practice

West Walk Surgery is based in purpose built premises in the Westgate Centre, a shopping centre with great amenities and free parking. The practice is in a semi-rural location between the vibrant cities of Bath and Bristol and operates a branch surgery at nearby Coalpit Heath. West Walk also offers a minor injuries unit, X ray department and pharmacy.

The practice runs a GP led triage system for urgent, on the day appointments, and has the benefit of an urgent care team that includes a Paramedic, Mental Health Nurse and Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Practice Pharmacist.

Working environment, values and culture

The team at West Walk consists of 10 GPs in varying sessions, 13 full- and part-time clinical staff, 11 receptionists and 8 admin staff, who are all also full- and part-time.

The Surgery recognises the value of a happy work force and provide work patterns which encourage a good work/life balance.

The Partnership takes a proactive approach to future proofing the business against the ever increasing demands on Primary Care.

Learning and development

West Walk is proud to be a GP training practice, with two Partners who are trainers. West Walk Surgery is also a core teaching practice for the University of Bristol medical students and provides placements for Student Nurses.

The surgery is also a large Research Centre, employing two Research Nurses and with lots of trials running at any one time.

Doctors and Para health professionals meet on a daily basis to catch up and discuss difficult cases. There are also regular Clinical Governance Meetings, attended by all Clinicians.

The team also actively looks forward to getting together for whole practice gatherings.

Our patients

The practice looks after 13,500 people. For those with Chronic Disease, we have a dedicated Nurse led Clinic. For our younger patients we offer child immunisation clinics with a childrens entertainer on hand to make the experience more enjoyable!
